It Sure Is Quiet Out There

I spent a COLD and WINDY morning in the field with my Ornithology class trying to see what is out and about these days but the wind and cold conspired to make birding really tough. We topped out at about 34 species but nothing new from last week. About the loudest birds around are all the American Redstarts. We're back out in the field tomorrow and I hope things are a little more active. It's kinda tough to keep the kids focused when their looking at their 15th Song Sparrow in a row (not that that's a bad thing...).

In a perfect world I'd have a small bus and no time limits. We'd go to some of the great local places that we just can't get to in a short couple of hours each morning. I'd also start at 5:30 am but now I'm just talkin' crazy...

You mean getting up before 5:00 in the morning to see birds doesn't appeal to everyone?

And I thought my friends were the weird ones, makin' fun of me for getting up at 4:00 every Friday. Huh.

Nice blog, by the way...I found you via Birdchick :)
